State of INFOCOM, December 2010
Sunday, 19 December 2010 10:00
Begin transmission…

Greetings Marines,

Well once again it is time for me to give the State of INFOCOM report and it looks like I’m going to be writing more of these in the months to come. I’m seriously going to have to come up with more material. Now I would like to thank Bruce for asking me to stay on as COINFOCOM, and in the coming months I am going to be working on adding services and other projects to the SFMC infrastructure. Now of course there are going to be some staffing changes here in INFOCOM since some staffers are going to different positions and with a new revolving door installed in my DCO’s office I need to also find yet another DCO. I’m starting to worry that I am going to go through DCO’s like Murphy Brown went through secretaries.

Of course I would be amiss if I did not thank Mr. Hof for his services as DCO and I do wish him well with his new responsibilities in TRACOM. I would also like to thank all of those staffers who have worked in INFOCOM and are moving onto other positions within the Corps.

With the holidays upon us and the New Year almost here I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Yule, etc.. and a wondrous New Year.

New and Current
This section contains stuff that INFOCOM is currently working on that that is new and exciting (well to us it is!).
With the selection of a new Dant and the seating of a new General Staff in January 2011 I will be reassessing current and planned projects. I will have a better idea as to what projects INFOCOM will focus on in 2011 and beyond when I present my January 2011 report.  Needless to say I have some interesting and exciting ideas that I am looking forward to implement.

SFMC Site Stats
This section contains some interesting stats for the SFMC sites. These stats are compiled from PingDom.com and Google Analytics. Just remember that Google knows and sees all.

While most of the items listed in this section hardly, if ever, change, they are included just as a reminder of some of the ongoing projects and activities that INFOCOM is involved in. Yes, we do more than get drunk and play ping-pong! Or in the case of my DCO fall asleep underneath either a desk or table.

  1. INFOCOM is publishing the Attention on Deck! Extra. We would like to hear from you about how we are doing. Also don't forget to submit your stories and articles too! The Future

This section contains items that are on the road map for release at some future date or are just pipe dreams. But hey even pipes have to dream!
See the New and Current Section.

Staffing
Staff, volunteers, victims...they are all the same. Unless they are zombies. In that case I need a heavy caliber weapon and a lot of ammo.

1) My current DCO, William Hof has tendered his resignation effective  January 1, 2011 to take a position within TRACOM as he feels that TRACOM will take more of his time. I understand his concerns and therefore have accepted his resignation, so once again I am opening up the DCOINFOCOM position for applications.

All applicants must be a member in good standing of STARFLEET: The International Star Trek Fan Association Inc., and meet the same eligibility requirements as laid out in the MFM and the SFMC Policy
Manual with regards to the position of COINFOCOM and General Staff members. Also it is recommended that the applicants be familiar with the SFMC General Staff Officers Manual. Experience in HTML, CSS, PHP, and Joomla is *not* required, but preferred. Applicants must have good communications and time management skills.

All interested applicants should submit copies of current SFI/SFMC  and real world resumes along with a letter of interest to me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Examples of prior work can be included.

The application period will commence immediately and end on December 31, 2010.

2 ) PHP/Javascript/Flash Developer: INFOCOM is once looking for a PHP/Javascript/Flash developer for  various projects. Applicants must have knowledge of PHP, Javascript, or Flash, and HTML. If interested please forward a copy of a STARFLEET and real world resume and if possible any examples of prior work to COINFOCOM.

Awards
Add another ribbon to your fruit salad. Impress your friends! Get the Girl! (Please note results may vary). Of course adding another ribbon may mean you need to aquire a bigger rack (get your mind out of the gutter).

Do you or someone you know publish a newsletter or some other SFMC related literature or media (audio/visual)? Do you or someone you know design and create SFMC related websites? If you do then why not nominate that marine for the communications Achievement Award? To nominate a marine for the award just go here: http://bit.ly/cEQhPV (takes you directly to the award form). Please note that the site, newsletter, video/audio must be related to the SFMC in some way.

SFMC Calendar of Events
Did you know the SFMC site has a calendar of events? To access it just click on the link in the Knowledge base. Also on the pages of the site and to the left there is a mini-calendar that shows which days are important in the SFMC and right below that is a listing of the next 3 upcoming events. If you would like to have your SFMC related events listed on the calendar just email me with the information.

SFMC Quartermaster Store
Did you know the SFMC QM has a website of its own? Well it is more than just a website, it is also a fully functional online store! So if you need some SFMC ribbons to complete your rack head to
http://qm.sfi-sfmc.org and purchase them  today.

The SFMC Quartermaster also has a Spreadshirt store. That store can be accessed right through the SFMC website under the "Stores" menu item.

Greetings Marines,

Well once again it is the month of October and for the past 3 years there are always some Gremlins that show up and make things a mess. Well this year was no exception. On the morning of October 27, 2010, the Gremlins wormed their way into the Data Warfare Center and ate through the data links, effectively cutting the DWC off from the rest of the world. Luckily the marines around here are now experienced in handling situations such as this, and were able to get the situation under control in about 2 hours. I have petitioned the Federation Counsel on finding the Gremlin homeworld and turning it into a ball of molten rock, but every year my request is denied for some reason. I think they just want to make my life difficult.

**New and Current**
This section contains stuff that INFOCOM is currently working on that that is new and exciting (well to us it is!).

1) SFMC Press Kit/Fliers/Etc.: This is one of those projects that has been placed on hold pending the outcome of the appointment of a new Dant.

2) Recruiting Videos: These videos will be composed from various footage, and will showcase the SFMC. Mr. Hof has already put a call out for material. For more information regarding the project please contact him directly at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . To date Mr. Hof has received a few submissions, but we need more. It would be nice to get some more SFMC related video footage so that we can put something together.

**The Future**
This section contains items that are on the road map for release at some future date or are just pipe dreams. But hey even pipes have to dream!

Ok since every form of divination has failed, I've decided to just sit back and wait and see what happens. Once the election is over and the disposition of the current GS is decided, then I'll start laying out more projects for the future. No use in starting something now and find out that I won't be able to carry out through fruition.

**Staffing**
Staff, volunteers, victims...they are all the same. Unless they are zombies. In that case I need a heavy caliber weapon and a lot of ammo. Actually I heard that Sears has some cool shopping for zombies (http://www.sears.com/zombies)

Another way to get this award is to completely rebuild the wireless network at the hotel where the IC is being held...during the IC.

**Need help with your groups website?**
If there is any Unit, Battalion, or Brigade that needs help in setting up a website or fixing one please feel free to contact me and I'll be more than happy to see what I can do to help. Be sure to have an idea as to some of the site basics (what information is to be on the site, what you want the site to do  for you, etc...) as it will help me help you.
