State of TRACOM, January 2011
Monday, 31 January 2011 13:00

First, let me say "NUTS!!" January has been a bit of a rough month for me personally, and as I was looking over the SFMCA site I realized that I hadn't done one of these for January as yet. I apologize for the lateness of this post.

New Courses:
New courses are coming open in a couple of our schools within the next few days. OD-16 will introduce marines to military briefings. XC-14 will cover the career and exploits of Gul Dukat. Prerequisites for each of these courses is the -10 level course for that school.

Old Courses:
It is with sadness I report that the AR-25 course is closing. This is in keeping with a long standing SFMC policy that marines should not have have to spend money to have the resources to successfully complete an SFMCA course. While Patton is currently available for viewing online, we can not count on that continuing to be the case for very long. Students who have already requested AR-25 and have it in hand may complete it and submit it for grade, but no further requests for AR-25 will be serviced.

Personnel Shuffling:
In order to bring better service to the Corps, personnel have shifted a bit. Most notable of these shifts is that Gary "Tiny" Hollifield is stepping away from the MO Branch and is stepping into the Professional Development/Leadership School effective 1FEB. This being the case, we are...

Now Hiring:
There are a few Branch Director openings I wish to announce. First off, I want to cover the basic qualifications that we here at the SFMCA are looking for in our faculty (as taken from the TRACOM Policies and Procedures Manual 2010 edition):

  1. All TRACOM Staff members must have completed PD-10 (Marine Basic Training), PD-20 and OTS;
  2. Must be a member in good standing of STARFLEET;
  3. Be at least 18 years of age;
  4. Branch Directors must have completed every course offered by their Branch up to and including the –30 level coursework (Bachelor’s of Military Science);
  5. If a staff member is appointed to a position within TRACOM, and that person has not completed the requirements for the position, he/she shall have 60 days to complete the requirements or be asked to resign the position;
  6. All candidates should review the TRACOM Policies and Procedures Manual paying close attention to the duties outlined in sections 3.01, 3.02, 3.04 Doctrine Section sub-section Branch Directors, and section 3.05 IN FULL.

The branch director positions we have available are as follows:
  1. Maritime Operations (MO)
  2. Officer Development (OD)

Please send your ‘Fleet resume, a letter of intent, and why you feel you would make a valuable addition to the Training and Doctrine Command staff to Lieutenant General Michael McGowan at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Applications will be accepted through 01 March 2011. Good luck to all candidates and I look forward to having to making a difficult decision in March.

As a final note, I'd like to remind students to be sure to sign all emails to the Academy and TRACOM with your real name and email address at a minimum. Servicing your request may be significantly delayed if we need to try and figure out who you are.

Greetings to all Marines and students of the SFMCA

Unlike INFOCOM, we have no gremlins at TRACOM that I can lay any excuse to for a late report - but I will blame everyone else that I can starting with the DCOTRACOM for keeping me from my administrative duties with other distractions of late! But it is all to the good and the past few weeks have been spent working through as many issues, plans and projects we have been able to in precipitation of the outcomes of the election and possibility of a new GS.
