State of TRACOM, February 2011
Wednesday, 16 February 2011 13:00
Marines,

Due to the lateness of the January report, this February report may be a bit light on data. At this time, the TRACOM HQ Staff is preparing to begin a program which will not only ensure that the SFMCA courses offered are up to date, but also that HQ has adequate and complete copies of all SFMCA materials on hand in a secondary storage site.

Still Hiring:
As was mentioned last month, there are still a few openings at the SFMC Academy. We are currently taking applications from people interested in the Maritime Operations (MO) and Officer Development (OD) positions. Requirements for each are listed below:

  1. All TRACOM Staff members must have completed PD-10 (Marine Basic Training), PD-20 and OTS;
  2. Must be a member in good standing of STARFLEET;
  3. Be at least 18 years of age;
  4. Branch Directors must have completed every course offered by their Branch up to and including the –30 level coursework (Bachelor’s of Military Science);
  5. If a staff member is appointed to a position within TRACOM, and that person has not completed the requirements for the position, he/she shall have 60 days to complete the requirements or be asked to resign the position;
  6. All candidates should review the TRACOM Policies and Procedures Manual paying close attention to the duties outlined in sections 3.01, 3.02, 3.04 Doctrine Section sub-section Branch Directors, and section 3.05 IN FULL.

Please send your ‘Fleet resume, a letter of intent, and why you feel you would make a valuable addition to the Training and Doctrine Command staff to Lieutenant General Michael McGowan at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Applications will be accepted through 01 March 2011. Good luck to all candidates and I look forward to having to making a difficult decision in March.
Additionally, we are still accepting applications for the position of ADC Clerk. The office of TRACOM Awards, Decorations, and Certification is looking for a clerk to help create and email certificates to members of the SFMC who have taken and passed courses within the SFMCA. Qualified applicant must have the following:

  1. Must be a Marine (taken and passed PD-10 and hold at least a reserve status).
  2. Must know how (or have the ability to learn quickly) to operate the database effectively for our needs.
  3. Must not have too many other SFI/SFMC jobs that are time intensive
  4. Broadband Internet Connection (DSL or better please)
  5. Email account that can handle sending large files (so far gmail is working wonderfully for me)
  6. Time in your day/week to create and email those E certs (2-4 hours each week minimum)
  7. Ability to affectively communicate with me (and my bosses) and the students who are awaiting certificates.

If you have all of the above and wish to apply, please send a current Starfleet/SFMC resume to ADC Director Jenn Hoover at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it   I hope to have the clerk position filled by March 1, 2011.

Student Reminder:

Students, it is of vital importance that you make certain that each and every field in the Course Request Form is filled out properly. If you select the correct course but select the incorrect school your request will go to the wrong address. Your request will likely be delayed in being processed.

Final Note:

Its getting close to Summit/Muster season again and with that we get closer and closer to IC/IM. Last year we introduced Team Delta which is awarded to both students of extremely high merit and persons making contributions of extreme value to the SFMC by way of TRACOM. I want to take the opportunity to remind students that in order to qualify for consideration for Team Delta as a student, you must have completed a 30 or 60 level term paper project which, in the opinion of the particular Branch Director, shows a very thorough understanding of the subject branch and a deep insight into the topic discussed.

Until next month...

COTRACOM
Greetings to all Marines and students of the SFMCA

Unlike INFOCOM, we have no gremlins at TRACOM that I can lay any excuse to for a late report - but I will blame everyone else that I can starting with the DCOTRACOM for keeping me from my administrative duties with other distractions of late! But it is all to the good and the past few weeks have been spent working through as many issues, plans and projects we have been able to in precipitation of the outcomes of the election and possibility of a new GS.
