State of INFOCOM, July 2011

Report issued by the DCOINFOCOM, Brigadier Michael Timko

Greetings all,

This won't be a terribly long report, but we at INFOCOM wanted to drop a few nuggets of information that occurred over the past month.

As you should know by now, our previous COINFOCOM Sean Niemeyer has stepped down.  The INFOCOM staff was saddened by his departure and we wish him the best with his future endeavours.

However, as they say in show business, the show must go on.

For the past two weeks, in my role as DCOINFOCOM, I have been overseeing the department and making sure it continued to run.

Web Server Transition:

During this time, INFOCOM has been working in conjunction with CompOps on the transition of the SFMC and SFMCA sites from servers overseen by the corps to a server overseen by STARFLEET: TISTFA, Inc.  While the transition was mostly smooth, we did hit some minor speed bumps along the way, but nothing we could not handle.

Staffing changes and searches have been suspended until Commandant O'Brien names Sean's successor at COINFOCOM.  Some conversations have been had as to what kind of staff might benefit the INFOCOM department, but that is all I am at liberty to say for now.  Look to future reports from the COINFOCOM as to what victims... ah, I mean volunteers INFOCOM may need in the future.

Attention on Deck: Extra:

Currently, the AOD:E project has been suspended, but again conversations have been had and the SFMC is planning on the projects eventual return.  At present, a return could happen as early as September 2011, but that date is not set in stone.

Communication Achievement Award:

Since I am only serving as the Acting COINFOCOM, I, myself, will not be issuing any Communication Achievement Awards, but if you know a project worthy of the award, please still bring it to my attention.  Project info can be sent to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  I will work with the other members of the GS to get the award approved.

Ribbon Rack Builder:

Remember, the SFMC website does have the Ribbon Rack Builder app.  There is not better way to create an image of your "Salad Bar" for your website, letterheads, and emails.

That will conclude my report for the month of July.  Should you have any questions about the SFMC websites, you can reach me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it which is a forward to my GMail address of This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
