State of Infocom, December 2011

Seasons Greetings Marines,

With Christmas now behind us, the personnel of the Datawarfare Center can move on to other things and not have visions of Sugar Plums dancing in their heads.

Let's get started.

Pingdom:
The Pingdom report for November showed us with 1 outage and an uptime of 99.65%.  The average response time was 432 ms.  These numbers are in line with previous results.

Infocom Bullet Points:
Tomorrow, Infocom will be turning in their bullet points for the coming year.  I won't elaborate too much here, Infocoms main objectives for 2012 are a new SFMC website, AODE, updating the SFMC manuals, and fleshing out the rest of the staff.

Attention on Deck Extra:
As you may already be aware, AOD:E is back.  Thomas Carroll is our new editor at the helm and he did a great first issue.  We are expecting great things from Mr. Carroll.  You can download Tom's first issue as well as all back issues by visiting the documents center of the SFMC website.

Staffing:
When I took office, I had a great staffing plan laid out.  Unfortunately, that plan took a back seat to necessity because Infocom had to get up and running.  With the department running, I felt it was time to revisit the old plan.

I will be talking to the ADOIC's in January about staffing ideas and how they would coordinate in their areas.  Towards the end of January we will he announcing new positions and begin the application process.  One key role that we have been looking to fill is a CGI/PHP Programmer.

Autonomous Testing:
The SFA has autonomous Testing in the form of their FACS system.  It was in the Commandants Briefing at IC 2011 that Tracom and Infocom were asked to.look into this.  While not a bullet point for 2012, it will be something Infocom works on.

Communication Achievement Award:
The COINFOCOM awards the Communications Achievement Award.  Have you done or do you know somebody who has done something worthy of this award?

Submissions can be made for designing a website or newsletter, writing a story or song, composing music, making a video.  The sky is really the limit.

Some might say my work wasn't good enough or significant enough.  To that, I say, you won't know until it gets submited.

Well, thats all I got for this month.

To all my marine buddies out there, have a safe and Happy New Years and I will see you again in a month.

Semper Fi.
