State of FORCECOM - June 2012

Greetings Marines,  Well we are just over a month away from the 2012 International Conference and International Muster, if you are going to be attending I hope you travel plans are progressing nicely and I will look forward to see you there.

During this month we lost a valued member of the Corps Brigadier Joseph Gallagher of the 128th MSG in the 1st Brigade, I knew Joe not only thru STARFLEET but we were friends outside of the organization last year Joe and myself and our friend Sandy went to Kentucky Down Under in Horse Cave, KY and had a get day together one of the events at the Kentucky Down Under was a vegemite eating contest, and Joe decided that he was going enter the challenge and they both decided I needed to enter it as well. In the end it was a draw between me and Joe, I will miss his friendship as we had planned on meeting up again this October and taking our wives to Kentucky Down under and then on the Sunday going and visiting The Hermitage in Nashville as well.  Enjoy discovering the Undiscovered Country my friend and I will look forward to chatting with you about your discoveries when we next catch up In the last 2 months we have had 5 new units join the corps  They are as follows

110th MSG of the USS Peleliu joining the 1st Brigade

131st MSG of the Station Robert De Bruce joining the 1st Brigade

177th MSG of the USS Star League joining the 1st Brigade

176th MSG of the USS Rodger Young joining the 1st Brigade.

598th MEU joining the 5th Brigade

The SFMC Strength at current stands at

TOTAL UNITS :      155

The Largest Unit in the Corps as of the last Brigade Report is

The 888th Tiger Sharks out of the 17th Brigade

The Brigade with the largest number of Units is the

1st Brigade with 24 units

The corps has 26 units that have between 10 and 20 members and it has 5 units that has over 20 members

Another part of the Corps that you might not know anything about is the SFMC Wilderness Challenge

What is the SFMC Wilderness Challenge you ask? The Wilderness Challenge is a yearly event meant to encourage physical
activity. Its purpose is to challenge the participants by pitting them against nature, physical or mental difficulties. It should be
physically or mentally challenging in nature but should be based A on good clean fun.

The Wilderness Challenge is a yearly event. The overall event includes all the individual Challenges put on by the Brigade’s within the
Corps. Each may be different but they all must represent the true nature of why the event was started. It must be physically challenging
and promote fellowship. Challenges can be planned around any number of physical activities including sports but is not intended to be a win
or lose contest. Anyone who participates receives the same reward. It is not to pit member against member, but members against themselves or
nature. The first three official Challenges were hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains, but they can consist of training sessions, obstacle
courses, treasure hunts or biking, swimming, hiking, skiing or any number of physically challenging events.

If you want more information about the Wilderness Challenge  there is a manual that is full of information or how to apply to get one approved:
